THE RESULT OF TEAM WORK
Since its inception, the project has been carried out enthusiastically
and tenaciously by Yael Gahnassia and her brother Jacques-Herve
Gahnassia of the Mayanot Gallery. Without the authorization
and the encouragement of Itiel Pann, son of the artist, and
his unflagging devotion to his father's work, this edition would
not have been possible. Rabbi A. Hazan has ensured throughout
the accuracy of the text, and the utmost respect to tradition.

THE INCEPTION OF AN IDEA
The idea of this unique publication began in 1988, following
the tremendous success of the exhibition of Abel Pann's Biblical
Works at Mayanot Gallery in Jerusalem. The novelty of the enterprise
- which is a "premiere" in the history of Israeli culture -
seemed a fascinating challenge. It was in a way tantamount to
following in the footsteps of Abel Pann when he resolved to
paint the scenes of the Bible in the land where it was born,
and to casting as main characters the descendants of those who
lived the events.
THREE INTRODUCTIONS, THREE APPROACHES
Former Mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek:
"Abel Pann brought to Jerusalem a western culture in which he
assimilated images of the East and its unique atmosphere...
'from Zion shall come the Torah.' "
Art historian, Dr. Gideon Ofrat:
"But above all, Abel Pann's work is both profoundly Jewish,
rooted in the spirit of the land and characteristic of the art
which is involved here."
Rabbi A. Hazan:
"...Abel Pann is privileged to fulfill the blessing of Genesis:
'God enlarge Japhet and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem.'
