THE FINEST PRINT ON HIGH QUALITY PAPER
The 140gr. "RIVOLI" rag paper has been specially produced by ARJOMARI PAPER WORKS in France for this publication. The off-white velvet touch, natural grain, 100 percent acid-free paper was specially reinforced and sealed to ensure perfect condition for generations to come.

BINDING IN THE BEST TRADITION OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
The binding - produced by Master Craftsmen at LA RELIURE D'ART, Limoges, France - is in leather with edges and letters embossed in 22 carat gold. The meticulously selected binding leather is a sheepskin tinted in a luminous ruby shade. The book is housed in a lavish case, covered and lined in suede, the color of which matches that of the binding. The corners, the hinges and the window through which the title appears are in leather as well.

THE RESULT OF TEAM WORK
Since its inception, the project has been carried out enthusiastically and tenaciously by Yael Gahnassia and her brother Jacques-Herve Gahnassia of the Mayanot Gallery. Without the authorization and the encouragement of Itiel Pann, son of the artist, and his unflagging devotion to his father's work, this edition would not have been possible. Rabbi A. Hazan has ensured throughout the accuracy of the text, and the utmost respect to tradition.
Masoretic text with English and French translations - First Edition, 1989

THE INCEPTION OF AN IDEA
The idea of this unique publication began in 1988, following the tremendous success of the exhibition of Abel Pann's Biblical Works at Mayanot Gallery in Jerusalem. The novelty of the enterprise - which is a "premiere" in the history of Israeli culture - seemed a fascinating challenge. It was in a way tantamount to following in the footsteps of Abel Pann when he resolved to paint the scenes of the Bible in the land where it was born, and to casting as main characters the descendants of those who lived the events.

THREE INTRODUCTIONS, THREE APPROACHES

Former Mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek:
"Abel Pann brought to Jerusalem a western culture in which he assimilated images of the East and its unique atmosphere... 'from Zion shall come the Torah.' "

Art historian, Dr. Gideon Ofrat:
"But above all, Abel Pann's work is both profoundly Jewish, rooted in the spirit of the land and characteristic of the art which is involved here."

Rabbi A. Hazan:
"...Abel Pann is privileged to fulfill the blessing of Genesis: 'God enlarge Japhet and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem.' "

AN ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION PRINTED IN JERUSALEM
Only 2500 copies individually numbered and stamped "Pann Collection Jerusalem," have been printed of this first edition.

AN OBJECT OF BEAUTY
The book in a format of 330x330x90mm(13"x13"x3"), comprises 700 pages, 84 of which are color plates.
